Between Surface and Self examines the shifting boundary between artist and artwork, where identity is embedded through acts of selection, construction, and re-composition. My physical likeness does not appear; instead, my presence exists through authorship—curating and composing hybrid portraits from source material drawn from artists who have shaped my understanding of image-making.
Fragments of their faces and visual languages are reconfigured and embedded with formal and symbolic elements drawn from their own work, both physically and metaphorically. Through this process, authorship becomes layered and unstable, and identity emerges as something constructed rather than fixed.
These images invite a reexamination of the artist and their work, positioning authorship not as a fixed origin, but as an evolving and permeable condition.
