Surface and Self
The Face
Surface and Self I,  (Jenny Holtzer), 2025
Archival pigment print, 40 × 40 inches
Surface and Self examines how identity is constructed and destabilized through mediated surfaces.  The face is subjected to successive transformations and no longer resolves into a stable image.
Language, gesture, and material act directly on the figure—constructing and displacing it at once.
What remains is an unstable presence where surface and identity cannot be separated.
