Like the mannequins that leer from shop windows, stiff, airbrushed cousins of Hans Bellmer’s unsettling dolls or the Surrealists’ fetishized muses — women’s bodies today are endlessly sculpted, filtered, and fed back to us as shimmering ideals on social media. In this work, the mannequin is no innocent stand-in: it exposes our complicity in a system that prizes plastic perfection over lived, imperfect reality. Echoing Cindy Sherman’s subversive self-portraits and Barbara Kruger’s razor-sharp interrogations of the male gaze, these images hold up a mirror to the insidious lie that a woman’s worth lies in being flawless, silent, and consumable.
