Femme Ersatz examines how identity is constructed and stabilized through mediated visual systems.
Using mannequins as proxies for the female body, the work dissects the figure and interrupts its perfection. What appears ideal is revealed as flawed, reflecting the human condition.
Across the series, the body is treated as a model—something to be shaped, corrected, and circulated. Features are emphasized or removed, surfaces are smoothed or broken, and fragments are isolated, suggesting a system that produces identity rather than reflects it.
As the sequence unfolds, this system begins to break down. Interventions accumulate, surfaces become unstable, and the figure dissolves. The image no longer holds as a single identity, but as something layered, repeated, and shifting.
What remains is not a fixed portrait, but a constructed presence—one that reveals both its making and the forces acting upon it.
